Proposed Affordable Rural Housing in
Egerton Parish
English Rural is a specialist non-profit rural housing association, established in 1991. We only build and manage homes in village locations, principally across the south of England. All the homes we build are community-led and designed to benefit local people. We are also one of the leading national advocates on affordable rural housing issues, with HRH The Princess Royal as our Patron.
Generally speaking, we develop our homes on ‘rural exception sites’. This enables us to ensure they are affordable and secured for local people – forever. Our residents and the local community are at the heart of what we do and we work at the invitation of the Parish Council.
Affordable doesn’t mean poor quality. Our homes are designed and built to high standards, usually using local design features and ensuring that their environmental impact is minimal. We build beautiful homes that villages can be proud of and our homes consistently win awards for design and construction.

We are proposing to design, build and manage a small development in Crockenhill Road of eight affordable rented homes for local people. The scheme would comprise the following homes:
2x one bedroom maisonettes
2x two bedroom bungalows
2x two bedroom houses
2x three bedroom houses
In addition, we are proposing 1x 'Custom Build Plot' for cross subsidy of the affordable homes. Please refer to the FAQ section to learn more about Cross Subsidy and what a Custom Build Plot is.

Please refer to our FAQs to learn how this site was selected.
The proposed site is located to the South West of Egerton main village, between Egerton and Egerton Forstal . It is on the North side of Crockenhill Road and is separated from existing housing by a green gap. Access to the proposed homes would be from a new junction with Crockenhill Road . The overall development site is approximately 1.1 acres and comprises a gently sloping grassed field of low agricultural quality.
